The Wentworth Africa Foundation (WAF) is a charitable foundation registered in the United Kingdom and Tanzania, set up in 2007 as the vehicle for our corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.
WAF’s mission is to provide, through active and personal volunteer involvement, fundamental resources for secondary schools in Southern Tanzania.
We are driven by our belief that all people should have access to:
- A means to provide for one’s family
- Ample food, clean water, power and access to essential services
- A healthy environment to raise a family
WAF designs, develops, and funds community programmes that improve health, educational and socio-economic outcomes. With social programmes seeking to improve education in Tanzania, particularly amongst girls, the Foundation partners with local authorities, regional partners, and NGOs to leave a lasting legacy.
Motivated by the desire to empower young people to build better futures, WAF has funded libraries for secondary schools, sponsored vocational training, built schools, and provided clean drinking water for students since its inception.

Keep a Girl in School
WAF’s flagship Keep a Girl in School programme supplies young girls with feminine hygiene products to increase educational opportunities and advance gender equality. Since the launch of the programme, WAF has distributed over 285,000 sanitary pads and provided direct support to keep girls in school. When WAF began working in the Mtwara region, there was only a 5% school attendance rate for girls. Six months after launching Keep a Girl in School, attendance rates increased to 71%.
