Our purpose — to empower people with energy — is part of our DNA and runs through everything we do. It guides our actions, sets our focus for the future, and motivates us to achieve more. By leveraging the power of natural gas, we are enabling Tanzania and the communities and people we serve to thrive.
With our onshore domestic gas asset, Mnazi Bay, we produce 30% of Tanzania’s natural gas to power over 50% of the country’s energy output. We work closely with our in-country stakeholders and partners in government to achieve sustainable growth to meet the nation’s rapidly expanding energy needs.
Our purpose is driven by trust. Trust forms the bedrock of how we conduct business. To build trust with all our stakeholders — from our licence partners to our local communities and investors — we focus on doing things the right way, from start to finish.
Chief Executive Officer
Our strategic focus
To empower people with energy, we focus on sustainable exploration, ongoing development, and strategic production expansion. Growth is a key strategic priority, which we deliver through our focus on five key growth drivers.
We do not believe operational growth should come at the expense of regular returns. That is why we announced our dividend commitment in 2019, and despite a challenging economic climate, increased our interim dividend pay-out by 20% in 2020.
How our purpose drives shared value:
$ 3 .8 Bn
saved in public finances since 2007, directly from Mnazi Bay natural gas*
30 .0 %
of Tanzanian electricity customers are currently served by Mnazi Bay natural gas*
$ 3 .8 m
returned to shareholders for FY2020
$ 17 .8 m
cash on hand (2020)
* Based on internal calculations.
Collaborating for success
At our core, we are collaborators. We partner with the government and regional leaders to drive our collective success. We value our long-standing relationships and work closely with our people, local communities, and operating partners to achieve our shared goals.
Powering Tanzania’s potential
We are a Tanzanian business, first and foremost. We are proud of the active role we play in meeting the country’s growth ambitions. We see the enormous potential of Tanzania in cementing its role as the East African energy hub as well as making a meaningful contribution to the wider African economy – and we are dedicated to playing an active role in facilitating this exciting transition.
Beyond the shared value we create through our operational activities, our charitable arm – the Wentworth Africa Foundation (WAF) — has contributed vital health, education, and wellbeing programmes to transform the lives of rural citizens since 2007.
